License Etiquette Consultant, Interior Decorator, Mentor, Motivational Speaker & Serial Entrepreneur.
Growing up in Trinidad and Tobago, I was fortunate enough to have things like hot water, cable and my own clothes. After my transition to Brooklyn, the only things that felt different were the culture around me and the upbringing of other kids my age. I was open to different cultures and perspectives and observed the challenges each culture faced. As a young woman, I didn’t have the necessary guidance. I never had someone to show me what etiquette really meant.
As I got older, I began to make my own decisions on how I wanted my life direction to go. I purposely put myself in places and around people from which I could learn. I watched movies that demonstrated the kind of life I wanted to live. I focused on movies that showed me how to carry myself gracefully, how to sit and how to greet someone. I learned how I should speak and other basic etiquette elements.
In 2010 I moved to Las Vegas. I met Mrs. Lusha Carter and she immediately became my biggest influence. From the day we met, she and her husband, Pastor Ontiwan Carter invited me to visit their church. I learned how a lady should sit, the purpose of a lap scarf and even the respectful way to hug a person. I even lived by her mantra of, “be a ladybug”; meaning be pretty, graceful and respected at all times. I purposely paid close attention to her lessons and mannerisms. It was then that I fell in love with the idea of being an etiquette coach.
As the years went by, I knew that being an etiquette coach and mentor was the right fit for me. Basic education and manners for young women and men has disappeared. With no one to teach proper etiquette, young people were ignoring their postures. They weren’t knowledgeable on how to properly use the utensils at the dinner table. They were going to miss the simple lessons in life – like the proper way to properly hold a wine glass or to stir tea in a cup. There have been so many skills lost that my new purpose is to bring back those lessons into our family lives and businesses.
So this is me - Avion the Mogul, Licensed Etiquette Consultant, and owner of Opulence Etiquette. My focus is to make sure I meet you where you are. Allow me to teach you all your etiquette needs and share a little bit of me, with you.
